There are many professions that require you to have CPR training in order to be employed in that industry. It is also recommended that parents undertake CPR training so they can be prepared and administer CPR shall their child or another person in the family need it. This can better the chance of survival until medical professionals arrive.
The training that is needed, or the certificate in first aid and CPR, will teach you how to save someone from cardiac arrest with the right skills and confidence. A first aid CPR course can save lives. If you are not sure what to expect during the CPR training, then check out the information below to find out all about CPR training.
Before you go to a first aid and CPR training course, it is important that you check out what class is most beneficial for you. You must register for the class you want to take ahead of time. You can register online or via the phone with the CPR and first aid training provider of your choice.
Choosing the right class
Each class is designed for specific audiences and whom you are going to be providing first aid to. The public does not receive the same level of training as medical professionals do. The training that the general public receives is on a basic level that will allow the person to sustain life until the paramedics arrive, who will then step in and help the injured. It doesn’t matter what level of experience you have or what job you are doing, CPR and first aid training go hand in hand together. You may need to take a few classes depending on the requirements. Most providers offer combination classes that give you a certificate in different areas.
Adult First Aid and CPR
The most basic and common class is the adult first aid and CPR class. The first aid training will cover techniques that can be used on people who are over the age of eight years old. If you need to know CPR due to your office job or caring for an adult, then this is most likely the course that you will be undertaking.
There is the option to include an automatic external defibrillator course to the training if you wish. It isn’t a bad idea to get the training needed for correct AED use. AEDs are found in workplaces and schools now. AEDs are more widely available and are used to increase the chances of survival when they are used correctly.
Paediatric First Aid and CPR
This is a course that will show you the right First Aid and CPR techniques to use on infants that are under the age of 8 years old. The method that is used for resuscitation is different than the one taught for adults. There is a compression to breathe ratio that is different, and the way you do the compressions is different to avoid too much pressure being put on the baby’s chest, which can cause injury.
If you work with children or want to take the course for your children, then this is the one you would take if the children are under the age of eight years old.
First Aid training and CPR for rescuers
This is basic life support training. This is the training that is needed for paramedics, statewide emergency workers and medical personnel. If you are working within the medical field, then you must complete this course. This course will cover the techniques for both adult and paediatric first aid and CPR.
